Quick Makeup Tips: 7 Steps To A Flawless Face

Some mornings there’s just not enough time. After hitting the snooze button a few too many times, there’s barely time to get dressed and scoff some toast, let alone look in the mirror. If your morning beauty routine involves public transport and a shaky mascara wand, this 5 minute beauty fix should buy you some more time in the morning!

The Night Before

In terms of skincare, I’m a big believer in working at the root of the problem rather than covering up and aggravating skin. For that reason, it’s good to start your skincare routine the night before. Waking up with great skin means you’ll have less work to do in the morning.

Overnight cream no7Putting on an overnight cream before you go to bed can drastically improve the state of your skin in the morning. Choose a cream that is relevant to your skin type – I have oily skin, so am currently using No7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream. If you have blemish prone skin, apply a little witch hazel to spots to work through the night. They’ll be less angry and red in the morning.

In the Morning

Step 1 – Cleanse

It doesn’t take long to cleanse your skin, but it makes a big difference to how your skin looks and how your base goes on. I always think that if your skin looks good, you don’t need extravagant eye and lip make up. I use Garnier Daily Energising Scrub, which contains small exfoliating beads so is great for waking your skin up.

Time taken: 30 seconds

Step 2 – Tone

I’m only a recent convert to toning, but I have to say it makes a big difference. Again, it only takes 5 seconds to pour some toner onto a cotton ball and wipe it over your face, but it massively reduces the size of your pores, making you look natural and not caked with makeup. Simple’s toner is cheap and does the trick.

Time taken: 45 seconds

Step 3 -PrimeNo7 Skin Primer

This is another widely-skipped step in morning routines which in my opinion is vital. Using a primer helps prep your skin for your foundation and makes it stay on for longer. I use No7’s Colour Calming Primer – it’s a green cream that counteracts redness. I find that by using this, my skin needs a lot less coverage. A primer such as this one really works to combat your skin issues rather than hide them, giving you much clearer skin in the long term.

Time taken: 1 minute

Step 4 – Mix moisturiser with foundation

Mixing Moisturiser and FoundationMixing a bit of your moisturiser with your foundation (or BB cream) means that your base with slide on quickly and easily. Apply only to crucial areas that need coverage – think your T-Zone. Then add dabs of concealer under your eyes, round your nose and over blemishes.

Time taken: 1 minute

Step 5 – Fill your eyebrows

The one beauty product I couldn’t live without is eyebrow pencil. I was skeptical at first, paranoid that my eyebrows would be running down my face everytime it rained! But they have great staying power and make a

massive difference to your face. Good eyebrows instantly make you look groomed. Make sure to get the right colour and use short, light strokes.

Time taken: 45 seconds

Step 6 – Mascara

Most of us would agree that mascara is a beauty essential, and there’s a fair few of us that would be reluctant to leave the house without it! (Guilty). A quick lashing of mascara will immediately open your eyes and make you look less tired.

Time taken: 30 seconds

Step 7 – Vaseline

A really easy way to complete your look is with clear Vaseline. Apply this not only to your lips, but also to your cheekbones and eyelids. This will give you a beautiful, natural dewy look that is often seen on the catwalks, and eliminates the need for any eye makeup.

Time taken: 20 seconds

All of this takes less than 5 minutes so you can get on with your morning looking fabulous!
